By not using green products, you are exposing yourself to numerous toxic chemicals found in every-day items. Washing powder, furniture polish, anti-bacterial cleaner and air fresheners can all contain any, if not all, of the following;

• Phosphates
• Chlorine
• Petroleum
• Cocamide DEA
• SLS
• Ammonia

You may think that these surely can’t cause any harm in such small amounts, but you’ll be constantly subjecting yourself to them: Your skin absorbing from your clothes all day, breathing in artificial air-fresheners all evening, fumes from that recently bleached kitchen worktop and bathing yourself in unnatural cleansers in the shower. These chemicals don’t need to be there.

Even your clean-smelling laundry room can be looked at as a toxic gas-tank! OK, that may sound a bit strong, but people assume that if something is clean then is has to smell of “fresh pine forests, “summer berry evenings” or “fruity spring meadows”. Although things can be clean and completely odourless, there is nothing wrong with wanting a hint of something nice in the air, but you can get that from natural, harmless ingredients.

And let’s not forget those washing liquids that get poured down the drain. They have to end up somewhere. And wouldn’t you prefer using something that you know will not cause any harm where it’s journey ends?

Although Ecover can be found in nearly all health food shops, we do not use them. As they insist on using a rolling 5 year cut-off date, and have recently lost their Vegan Society registration due to new, questionable, testing methods.
