Organic Food and Cooking
In modern day agriculture, it’s almost certain that your food has been sprayed with pesticides, treated with artificial fertilisers or has been genetically modified.
Just as with all products, your body will absorb the chemicals used in these methods and, over time, your health can be adversely affected. Some of these ingredients are pesticides, artificial fertilizers, human waste and sewage sludge. And for all you meat-eaters out there, your food can be raised using Antibiotics and growth hormones.
So what if you want to use produce that hasn’t been developed in this way?
Organic food and cooking ingredients have been grown and produced using natural methods and contain no artificial contaminates. As more and more people are choosing the organic alternatives, they are becoming more commonplace and easier to find.
Another point worth making is that there is a much greater amount of wildlife around organic farms, not because of the food, but because there is the lack of harmful chemicals. These kill off the insects and even the surrounding creatures, disturbing the natural balance.
A good thing to look out for is the Soil Association logo on labels.
